Field Trip to IAMM

1. What is the initial statement of IAMM (mission)?

Display a wide collection of ancient artifacts, historical documentation, ancient buildings of Islamic mosque, sharing and educating all the Islamic culture and knowledge to the audience.

2. The audience of IAMM will be benefit from or fulfill needs by:

The audience of IAMM will achieve the knowledge of Islamic culture. They are able to understand every history and meaning of the artifacts, the specific structure of Islamic mosque, the wide collection of coins that use for trading, the way that Islamic people dressed on different occasions, the meaning of textile on the design, what kind of arms and weapon they used during each century, the way to communicate each other (language and writing) and the different styles of islamic culture (Hindu, Chinese etc..)

3. What kind of mood/emotion ( using design / ambient / copywriting... etc ) has been created, can there be better?

The mood considered so-so. At first is still ok but later on the felling become bored due too many description to read and not every artifacts catch my eye. Perhaps if they put some interaction media on the museum to interact audience, they will feel interesting instead of bored.

4. Which part of the culture / lifestyle / practice makes you curious the most? Why?

Arms and Armour. The design for the Arms and Armour catch my eye, the design for the weapon is very unique (tiger head as gun handle) and the textile apply on the arm-guard.

5. Can you find something ( object / conversation / image / incident ) from this trip that represents the impression you have towards Islamic Art?

I was surprise that with the technology they had during that time, they are able to design all these unique design and detailed textiles, but most surprisingly is the structure of the mosque, who ever design that is a brilliant designer.

6. The 3 question i would like to ask:

- What happened to the Islamic Arms and Armour on 21th century, is the Islamic Arms and Armour still around? is their design still carry the same symbol and patterns?
- What kind of materials they had used to create all these Arms and Armour during each century?
- Why they design the Arms and Armour like the picture above, it is for showing a personal status, specific function or others meaning?
